Bengaluru FC has filed a formal complaint with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) after a firecracker was hurled into the away section during the Indian Super League 2024-25 final against Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday.
The explosive landed among Bengaluru’s travelling supporters, injuring multiple individuals. One supporter sustained an eye injury that required medical attention. Among those hit was club owner Parth Jindal, who suffered burns and bruises. Jindal later took to social media to share details of the incident and raised concerns over the lack of adequate security at the venue.
“This was not just an act of recklessness, but a direct threat to the safety of our fans and officials,” the club said in a strongly worded statement condemning the attack.
BFC is now working with the AIFF and FSDL to ensure appropriate action is taken. The club has called for strict consequences and improved safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
“Such actions not only endanger lives but go against the very spirit of our beautiful game,” the statement read. “Stadiums should be a safe space – now and always. Such acts have no place in football, or anywhere.”
The club’s complaint aims to set a precedent for fan safety norms and accountability in Indian football.
