Brazil changing coach so close to World Cup might affect its preparation, feels WC-winning captain Dunga

Speaking about the struggling Brazil football team, former World Cup-winning Brazil captain Dunga said on Sunday that the team seeking a new coach too close to the World Cup might affect its preparation for the quadrennial event.

“We are one year away from the World Cup, and we are looking for a coach. We needed a coach a long time ago. And we are still looking. So, postponing things might be the biggest problem because you start winning the World Cup outside the field (preparation),” Dunga said ahead of the Brazil Legends vs India All Stars exhibition match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

Asked why Brazil players like Raphinha, Rodrigo, and Vinicius Junior aren’t able to replicate their club form for the National team, former Brazil midfielder and World Cup winner Gilberto Silva said: “There’s a massive difference between playing for your club and national team. In a club, you are there every day, training with your colleagues. And there is your coach. In the national team, you may have the opportunity to spend time with your colleagues and the manager about six times a year.

“And in this short time, they have to do as much as they can. People don’t understand how difficult it is to play under pressure when you are with Brazil (team), because we, as Brazilian football fans, put pressure on everyone. We are now going to look for a new manager, which makes the work of the players even harder,” he added.
