Brighton captain Lewis Dunk has revealed that he felt his side were ‘comfortable’ as they cruised to a third straight triumph over Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Seagulls soared to a 3-1 victory, bringing United’s lacklustre Premier League run to four defeats in six games.
Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma, and Georginio Rutter clinched the win for Brighton, who were quick off the mark with a goal from the former in the fifth minute.
The Red Devils then equalised shortly after through Bruno Fernandes‘ penalty. Despite United finishing the first half strongly, Brighton upped their game in the second, posing a bigger threat even though they had fewer shots than United.
Brighton defender Dunk reflected on the match as a ‘comfortable’ win and lauded his team’s post-interval intensity in his interview with Sky Sports: “[It was] a good day.
“I thought we deserved the win, the intensity was excellent in the second half. We started the game well, dropped off a bit and they got a goal back.
“We were a bit frustrated at half-time but we spoke words and showed what we were about in the second half. We’ve had a good record over them over the years. Long may that continue.
“A big week we’ve had and we’ve put ourselves in a good position in the league. We have another big game coming up and we can’t roll over and think it’s done and stop doing what we’re doing. We can beat anyone like that.
“We were comfortable at the end, we didn’t give them any chances at the end all game. We were comfortable, we pressed them at the end. We have learned, to win a game of football, it doesn’t have to be pretty to win a game.”
