East Bengal’s assistant coach, Bino George, confirmed on Friday that a selection of senior players will join the squad for its highly anticipated Calcutta Football League (CFL) clash against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant on Saturday.
“Some senior players have joined the squad for the match, and we expect Mohun Bagan to do the same,” Bino stated to reporters. “Every team will be playing for the win. We haven’t had the best start to the league, but tomorrow presents a great opportunity for us.”
The Red and Gold Brigade, who have secured just one victory in their first four CFL matches, are eager to revive their campaign with a win in the season’s inaugural Kolkata Derby of the season.
Bino emphasised his team’s unwavering focus on dominating their traditional rivals. “When East Bengal and Mohun Bagan meet, it’s a war, and we intend to win it. There’s no room for fear in a war,” he asserted.
The match which was originally scheduled to be played on July 19 was postponed due to operational challenges at the Kalyani stadium. However, persistent rainfall has raised concerns about the pitch conditions. The coach acknowledged the potential impact of the weather on his team’s preferred style of play.
“My style of play is based on passing football, and if the ground is wet, it will be challenging,” Bino admitted. “But we always have a Plan B. Football is a results-oriented sport, and the fans won’t accept any excuses. The Derby always brings out the best in players, and tomorrow, we’ll be going for the win.”
