England limped into the knockout stages of Euro 2024 last night as they were held to a goalless draw by Slovenia in their final group game. It was another hugely disappointing performance from the Three Lions, who have failed to impress in any of their matches so far.
Gareth Southgate‘s men dominated possession but failed to create many real chances, with Harry Kane and Phil Foden forcing easy saves and Bukayo Saka having a goal ruled out for offside. Slovenia sat deep and defended resolutely to earn a deserved point and book their place in the knockout rounds for the very first time.
The result was still enough for England to finish as group winners on five points after winning once and drawing twice. However, it is abundantly clear that improvements will need to be made to avoid a hiding against the first decent side they come up against in the knockout stages.
