Everton centre-back James Tarkowski is heading into their clash with Manchester City full of optimism, despite the Toffees’ ongoing struggle to find the back of the net.
The defender believes that the Merseyside outfit’s recent strong performances against top-tier teams – with draws against title hopefuls Arsenal and Chelsea – have boosted the squad’s confidence.
“I go to most games that way, to be honest,” he admitted.
He acknowledged the challenge of playing at the Etihad but remains undeterred, stating: “I know it is difficult to go to these stadiums and there is a lot of talk about Man City’s form right now, but I still look at their team and see a team full of players who are quality.
Despite City’s current struggles, Tarkowski insists Everton are ready for the challenge: “City are a top side, so people are going to question them at the minute, but we are going there fully expecting to get a result from the game.
“We are a team in good form and we have not lost many games in the last 12 or 13 games and we are in a place where we are feeling good.”
With players returning from injury, Tarkowski feels the squad is stronger than ever: “We have got a strong squad at the minute with people coming back from injury and stuff so we are feeling good as a group.
“This is a nice period of time where a lot of games come thick and fast, so bodies are going to be needed, but we have a strong squad there as well.”
