Experience of Kiyan, Suhail, Dippendu will boost my reserves team: Mohun Bagan coach Deggie Cardozo

The presence of three first-team players — Dippendu Biswas, Suhail Bhat, and Kiyan Nassiri — will certainly help Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s reserves team, coach Deggie Cardozo said on Friday.

Mohun Bagan will face arch-rival East Bengal in the Calcutta Football League on Saturday. This will be the season’s first Kolkata Derby.

“The preparation has been good. The team has been performing as well, we have won important games. Having Dippendu, Kiyan, and Suhail will certainly help us. They will be with the squad. It’ll be a good opportunity to give these young players some game time, as our club always looks to do,” Cardozo told reporters.

For the Mariners, Bhat and Biswas made 16 and 19 appearances for the first team across competitions in the 2024-25 season. Nasirri, who is a product of the Mohun Bagan academy, made 15 appearances for former side Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League.

“They are experienced players now after playing in the first team. That has helped my reserve team players. In training, they communicate with the reserve players and are as motivated as anyone,” Cardozo added. “I have confidence in my players. I’m not looking at the other team; yes they are a good team with good players but we want to focus on our game, get three points, and move up the table.

Defender Biswas weighed in on the upcoming derby match, “The players are very motivated for the derby. They understand the importance of this match and we hope we get the win.”
