Former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri was taken to the hospital after falling ill this morning. Sarri, 66, was reportedly taking a training session with his Lazio side when the incident occurred.
He was then taken to the Villa Mafalda clinic in Rome. However, his club have since released a statement to reassure fans, and confirmed that Sarri has been released after thorough checks.
“Coach Sarri is returning to Formello and, as scheduled, will lead training at 6pm,” the statement read. “He underwent a thorough fitness check this morning, more comprehensive than the tests the players underwent at the training centre.”
It is thought that the warm weather in Rome could have contributed to his admission to the hospital. Temperatures in the Italian capital reached 35 degrees today.

Sarri only returned to his role at Lazio last month. In March 2024, he resigned after almost three years in charge after falling out with the club over their work in the transfer market.
He duly took a 15-month sabbatical from football before being reappointed as head coach on a two-year contract this summer. He spent just one season at Stamford Bridge in 2018/19, leading the club to the Europa League by beating Arsenal 4-1 in the final.
However, he left for Juventus at the end of the season, citing his desire to be closer to his elderly parents in Italy. He won the Serie A title with the Turin club, but was sacked following their last-16 exit in the Champions League.
In his 32-year managerial career, he’s also managed the likes of Perugia and Napoli. During his first stint with Lazio, he led them to second place in the 2022-23 season, their best league finish since winning the title in 1999-2000.
