Indian football hit a new low as the women’s national team fell to a record low of 70 in the latest FIFA rankings, released by the apex football body on Thursday.
The Blue Tigresses lost consecutive matches to Uzbekistan in the latest May-June transfer window, conceding 9.93 ranking points in the process and falling one further spot in the rankings.
India’s women’s best ranking remains 49th in December 2013. Though it remained around the 50-rank mark till August 2022, it has remained on a steady decline since.
The latest update adds more misery in Indian football, with the men’s team losing to lower-ranked Hong Kong two days ago, making its extremely difficult for it to qualify for the next edition of the AFC Asian Cup.
