ISL 2024-25: Kerala Blasters’ new signing Bikash Yumnam in treatment for hamstring injury

Indian Super League (ISL) club Kerala Blasters on Thursday said that new signing Bikash Yumnam is under treatment for a hamstring issue.

The update comes four days after the club announced that the 21-year-old defender joined the Blasters from Chennaiyin FC on a long-term contract that will keep him at the side until 2029.

“The club can confirm that Bikash Yumnam is harbouring a minor hamstring problem as a result of which he will be working closely with the club’s medical team to ensure a swift and complete recovery to eradicate it for the long term,” the Blasters said in a statement on social media.

“We are optimistic about Bikash’s return to training at the earliest and will continue to monitor his progress carefully,” it added.

He made 11 appearances for Chennaiyin in the ongoing season and has recorded one assist in that period. In his last match for Owen Coyle’s side, which was against Mohammedan SC, he was brought off in the 81st minute due to a suspected injury.

Chennaiyin FC Assistant coach Noel Wilson had later confirmed the injury in the press conference ahead of the side’s match against Mohun Bagan. “Even in the last game, Bikash had a hamstring [injury] and we had to bring him out,” Wilson told reporters.

The youngster from Manipur has been a standout talent in Indian football. He began his professional career with Indian Arrows in the I-League, making his debut on February 5, 2020, against NEROCA FC. His impressive performances earned him a move to RoundGlass Punjab FC, where he continued to develop his skills and gain valuable experience.

He has also been a consistent presence in India’s youth national teams, representing the U-16, U-19, and U-20 sides
