Mumbai City FC returned to winning ways by downing a 10-man Mohammedan Sporting SC by a solitary goal at the latter’s home in a match week 12 fixture of ISL – 11 at Kishore Bharati Stadium here on Sunday.
Vikram Partap Singh found the net early in the second half as Mumbai City collected the full quota of points to raise its tally to 17 points from 11 matches and move to seventh in the standings. Suffering its seventh loss in eight games, Mohammedan Sporting continued its dismal run in the debut season and remained at the bottom of the table with five points from 11 matches.
The opening session did not produce much as Mumbai City struggled to put together effective attacks that could challenge the well-knit Sporting defence.
The game opened up for the visitors after the 34th minute when Mohammedan Sporting was reduced to 10 men following the ejection of its defensive midfielder Mohamed Irshad, who collected two bookings in four minutes to be sent off.
Losing its French midfielder Jeremy Manzorro to injury early in the game, Mumbai City also took time to regroup and found its bearings after the break.
Mumbai City pressed hard immediately after the interval and found the break thanks to a faulty clearance by the Mohammedan Sporting goalkeeper Bhaskar Roy that released Vikram Pratap with a free chance opportunity. The Mumbai City forward made no mistake with his powerful attempt that found the right end of the hosts’ net.
The result:
Mohammedan Sporting SC 0 lost to Mumbai City FC 1 (Vikram Pratap Singh 48).
