Jamie Gittens’ stance revealed by Dortmund chief after failed Chelsea transfer

Chelsea’s quest to land Jamie Gittens has not deterred the youngster, according to Borussia Dortmund chief Sebastien Kehl, who confirmed discussions with the 20 year old following the failed £42million bid.

Gittens, whose heart was set on a Stamford Bridge move after agreeing personal terms, has shown no signs of negativity despite the setback and remains focused on performing for Dortmund, particularly during the ongoing Club World Cup.

In light of Mykhailo Mudryk’s potential four-year ban for a failed drugs test, Chelsea are eager to secure a new winger, with Gittens being their primary target. Although talks between the two clubs are ongoing, Dortmund are holding out for a higher fee, and Kehl sees Gittens playing a crucial role for his team in the meantime.

“We’ve had one or two conversations with Jamie in the last few days,” Kehl told Fussball Transfers. “He’s professional enough to know he has to perform. That’s also in his nature. Jamie will be important for us in this tournament. And we’ll see what happens after that. But I don’t see him as negative.

“We had already one entire season already without Mischa. We are going to decide to go for a winger,” confirmed Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, “In both cases, we have Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto as proper wingers, then we try to adapt with Tyrique George.

“It’s a position we need to improve. I spoke with Mischa in Poland when we played the Conference League final [on May 28]. I didn’t speak with him since that time. To be honest, I didn’t see the news.

“They communicated to me last night. But there is nothing at the moment I can add because I don’t have more information about that. The last time I spoke with Mischa, as I said, was in Poland and he was quite good.

“I didn’t see him worried or at least I didn’t see him not good. He was good, he was OK. Since that day I didn’t speak with him, so I don’t know how he is now. But for sure in the next days, and weeks we are going to have direct contact with him.”
