Lewandowski refuses to play for Poland until Michal Probierz is head coach

Poland’s record goalscorer Robert Lewandowski resigned from playing for the National team until Michal Probierz remained as the head coach, the forward stated on social media.

“Considering the circumstances and the loss of trust in the coach of the Polish National Team, I decided to resign from playing in the Polish National Team until he is the coach. I hope that I will be able to play for the best fans in the world again,” he wrote on X.

The decision comes after Probierz gave the captain’s armband to Piotr Zielinski when Lewandowski opted out from the matches against Moldova and Finland in the June international window.

“By decision of coach Michał Probierz, Piotr Zieliński has become the new captain of the Polish national team. The coach personally informed Robert Lewandowski, the entire team and the training staff about his decision,” the Polish football federation said in a statement.
