Liverpool are said to be chasing the signature of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak this summer after the Sweden international bagged 23 Premier League goals last season. The Reds are on the hunt for a new frontman after winning the top-flight title in Arne Slot’s maiden campaign in charge.
Isak has been a revelation at St James’ Park since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad three years ago. The 25-year-old has bagged 62 goals in 109 games for the Magpies and has become one of the most clinical finishers in world football. But Newcastle are said to be demanding more than £150million to sanction his exit. Liverpool won’t want to be priced out of a deal as they look to win back-to-back Premier League titles for the first time ever. And Express Sport takes a look at four stars the Reds could offer the Magpies in part-exchange for Isak to get a deal over the line.
Darwin Nunez
Darwin Nunez appears to be surplus to requirements at Anfield and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. But the two-time Premier League champions could offer him the chance to stay in England by presenting him to Newcastle.
Although he’s struggled in front of goal during his time at Anfield, the 25-year-old has the pace and physicality to cause defenders issues whenever he takes to the pitch. And he could provide Eddie Howe’s side with a new dimension in attack.
Andy Robertson
Andy Robertson won’t be Liverpool’s first-choice left-back next season if the Reds complete a deal to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for £45m.
The Scotland international has starred in the north west and has won a host of trophies since arriving from Hull in 2017. But he only has one year remaining on his contract and has been tipped to depart Anfield to sign for Atletico Madrid.
The 31-year-old would have plenty to offer Newcastle if Liverpool denied him the opportunity to move to Spain and instead included him in the Isak deal.
Jarell Quansah
Jarell Quansah failed to establish himself under Slot last season, with Ibrahima Konate preferred at the heart of defence alongside Virgil van Dijk. But the 22-year-old is clearly a talented man and could be a Premier League star in the years ahead.
He would likely jump at the chance to be a regular starter at Newcastle, who will play in the Champions League next season. And his inclusion in a deal for Isak would make a dent in the transfer fee Newcastle are said to be demanding.
Harvey Elliott
If Newcastle would prefer a player who can make an impact in the middle of the pitch, Harvey Elliott could be the man for them.
The 22-year-old has already featured 147 times for the Liverpool first-team, bagging 15 goals and 20 assists in those encounters.
But he’s another player who isn’t assured of a place in Slot’s starting line-up, so the Reds could attempt to convince Newcastle that he would improve Howe’s side. And if the Magpies bite, Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak may become affordable.
