Liverpool in game of ‘transfer poker’ as Hugo Ekitike unlocks fresh breakthrough

Bayern Munich reportedly believe that they are making significant progress in their pursuit of Luis Diaz. The German giants are pushing to secure the signature of the forward, despite Liverpool’s insistence that he is not for sale. The Reds have splashed the cash on marquee signings in recent weeks, acquiring the services of Bayer Leverkusen duo Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, as well as Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

Further acquisitions are in the pipeline, including Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike. Talks are ongoing between the two clubs over a deal for the Frenchman after Arne Slot’s side managed to steal an advantage over Newcastle in the battle to secure the striker’s signature

According to SportBILD, Bayern are holding out hope that Liverpool’s move for Ekitike could hand them a major boost in their pursuit of Diaz, with the negotiations acting as encouragement over the past few days.

The Bundesliga outfit feel that they have made progress in the ‘poker’ scenario that is their move for Colombia international. Bayern believe that they have now also received an indication that Liverpool would be willing to entertain concrete negotiations soon.

The higher powers at both clubs are planning to meet for talks soon, and Bayern feel that once Liverpool sign Ekitike, they may be more willing to entertain offers for Diaz – who has made it no secret that he would be keen to leave the club this summer.

Diaz has informed the Reds of his desire to join Bayern and already agreed on personal terms with the Bundesliga side, as well as a four-year contract at the Allianz Arena. The forward is now waiting for negotiations to open so that his future can be resolved.

Liverpool have previously reiterated that they have no intention of parting ways with Diaz this summer and rejected an offer from Bayern and an approach from Barcelona. But the moving parts in the transfer window could prompt a change of heart on Merseyside.

Slot’s side may also feel that there are opportunities to replace Diaz with a top-quality option now, with Real Madrid’s Rodrygo looking to secure a move to the Premier League this summer after deciding that his future lies away from the Bernabeu.
