Manchester United have added Fiorentina striker Moise Kean to a four-man shortlist as Ruben Amorim prepares to upgrade his firepower in the summer transfer window, according to reports. The Red Devils are expected to sign a striker on top of a more versatile forward, with Matheus Cunha said to be in advanced talks over a switch from Wolves.
Amorim’s attacking priorities could change depending on whether he can guide United to Champions League qualification via Europa League glory. However, he has added Kean to the frame ahead of recruiting a new player to lead the line next season, potentially sparking a Premier League return.
According to Foot Mercato, the 25-year-old joins Viktor Gyokeres, Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen on Amorim’s striker shortlist.
Kean escaped a miserable return to Juventus last summer, joining Fiorentina for just £11million and signing a contract until 2029.
He scored just 22 goals in 123 appearances for the Old Lady on either side of a failed spell at Everton, where he managed to score just four times in 39 games.
But the Italy international has burst into life in his debut season at Fiorentina, plundering 23 goals in 41 outings, 17 of which have come in the Serie A.
Bayern Munich are also claimed to be circling Kean, who has a release clause worth £42.5m that suitors can trigger between July 1 and July 15.
The report adds that if United secure Champions League football, they will prioritise pursuing Gyokeres or Delap.
However, the plan will change if the Red Devils collapse against Athletic Club in Thursday’s semi-final second leg or taste defeat to Tottenham Hotspur or Bodo/Glimt in the final.
Osimhen and Kean would then reportedly enter the forefront, and the latter represents the more financially viable candidate.
Kean played for Everton in the 2019/20 season after joining for £25m, but spent the following three campaigns away from Goodison Park on loan.
An opportunity to prove himself in the Premier League as a more seasoned striker could appeal to the Fiorentina frontman.
Whether United would ultimately push for his signature as the chosen target remains to be seen. The M16 giants have dipped into Italy for their last two strikers.
Hojlund has scored 25 goals in 90 appearances since his £72m switch from Atalanta in 2023.
Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee has managed seven in 48 and appears more suited as one of the attacking midfielders in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
