Monaco have set their sights on Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana in a blockbuster £40million deal. United could use the funds raised towards securing the services of Aston Villa No.1 Emiliano Martinez.
Cameroonian shot-stopper Onana, who moved to United from Inter Milan for a staggering £47.5m in 2023, has found it tough to live up to expectations at Old Trafford. With the United hierarchy seemingly open to selling any player at the right price, Onana’s departure this summer is very much on the cards.
Despite his pedigree, Onana has had another season where he hasn’t quite hit the mark. While currently on holiday, the 29-year-old keeper gave a cryptic response to questions about his future at United, stating: “Will I leave? I don’t know, we’ll see.”
Monaco’s current goalkeeping duo, Philipp Kohn and Radoslaw Majecki, have failed to impress, prompting the Ligue 1 outfit to scour the market for a prominent new first-choice.
Martinez has entertained offers to move to the Saudi Pro-League but has an ambition to stay in England’s top league. The Argentine World Cup champion is open to a switch to the Red Devils if they make a move.
