Man Utd decide Alejandro Garnacho transfer price after ‘rejecting £38m bid’

Manchester United have slapped a hefty price tag on Alejandro Garnacho after turning down an opening bid from Napoli, according to reports.

The winger has been linked with a January move away from Old Trafford, which would help to ensure United’s compliance with Premier League profit and sustainability rules.

Napoli are said to be eyeing a move for Garnacho as they look to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has submitted a transfer request and is reportedly close to joining Paris Saint-Germain.

Juventus have also been credited with a desire to sign the 20-year-old, but are not likely to make a move until the summer.

It remains to be seen how the situation will develop over the coming weeks, with United under no immediate pressure to sell given that Garnacho remains tied down until 2028.

Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim insisted last week that he did not want to lose any of his young players, with the future of Kobbie Mainoo also in doubt.

“I really love my players,” he said. “I want to keep my players, especially the talented ones. I’m really happy with Kobbie Mainoo, he’s improving, and also with Garnacho. Our idea is always to keep the best players and the players that we build for this club.”

Garnacho has scored eight goals for United in all competitions this season, with only three of those coming in the Premier League. He has mainly been used as a substitute in recent weeks but is fighting his way back into contention for regular starts.

The former Atletico Madrid winger started the FA Cup victory over Arsenal on the weekend and played a crucial role, creating the opening goal for Bruno Fernandes before he was replaced late on.

Garnacho was a key performer for United last season, making over 50 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, and scored an early goal in their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.
