Man Utd ‘monitoring’ ex-Arsenal star after ‘watching his recent matches’

According to The Sun, United are one of a number of clubs keeping their eye on Ramsdale. The former Arsenal goalkeeper has endured a tough season at already-relegated Southampton this season, although the 26-year-old has largely been absolved of blame for their disastrous campaign.

The Red Devils have reportedly watched Ramsdale’s recent matches. It is understood that they believe his Premier League experience could be valuable at Old Trafford.

An overhaul of the United squad is expected to take place in the summer. The goalkeeper role could play a part in their activity. Onana has been linked with Saudi Arabian clubs ahead of the transfer window.

The 29-year-old was dropped from United’s squad ahead of the Newcastle game, with Amorim wanting the former Ajax man to ‘disconnect’ his mind from a tough period. Onana made his latest two mistakes in his side’s 2-2 draw with Lyon last week, having been involved in a verbal spat with Lyon and former Red Devils midfielder Nemanja Matic before the game.

United face a make-or-break second leg with the French club on Thursday. However, Bayindir’s chances of starting took a blow with a poor display against Newcastle.

“You have to see the context,” Amorim told Sky Sports about the decision to leave Onana at home. “Sometimes you have to push the player to play again, sometimes you have to let him disconnect a little bit. Tomorrow he will be in training to prepare for [Lyon] so I felt that it was a good time for Andre to disconnect.

“I think he was okay because I explained. You don’t need to like it but you understand because I explain everything. You have to manage everything. Sometimes people just look at the physical aspect but the mental aspect is really important. It’s just one game and tomorrow is a new life.”

United will reportedly face competition from West Ham for Ramsdale. Hammers boss Graham Potter also wants to reshape his squad in the summer and is claimed to see the ex-Sheffield United and Bournemouth player as central to his transfer plans.
