Manchester United have reportedly identified Callum Hudson-Odoi as a surprise potential signing this summer. Two excellent seasons at Nottingham Forest have helped kickstart the former Chelsea star’s Premier League career.
United are determined to strengthen their forward line after scoring only 44 goals in 38 Premier League games last term. A disastrous campaign ended with the Red Devils finishing 15th and losing the Europa League final against fellow strugglers Tottenham. INEOS will complete a major overhaul of Ruben Amorim’s squad and a new set of forwards are expected to arrive at Old Trafford.
According to Sky Sports News, included on their shortlist is three-cap England winger Hudson-Odoi. Wide-ranging reports from 12 months ago claimed that the 24-year-old would cost around £40million, which Forest will surely demand at the very minimum again this summer.
Chelsea allowed Hudson-Odoi to join the Midlands club for only £5m in 2023. That means United may be forced to pay £35m more for a player they could have signed for a pittance two years ago, when Erik ten Hag was manager. United’s business that summer included the £60m signing of Mason Mount, a £72m arrival of Rasmus Hojlund and the £45m purchase of Andre Onana.
All three have faced scrutiny during their two years at United, although Mount enjoyed a relatively positive end to the season, having recovered from long-term injury issues.
Hudson-Odoi scored five goals and provided two assists in 2024-25, helping Forest qualify for the Conference League. In the season prior, the 24-year-old struck five goals and made three assists.
United are expected to perform major surgery over the summer. Several new signings will replace under-performing players. Wolves forward Matheus Cunha will become the first arrival after United confirmed they had agreed a deal that could cost them over £62million.
A club statement read: “Manchester United has reached [an] agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian forward’s signing is subject to visa and registration.”
Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo are also reportedly on United’s radar. A new centre-forward could also be signed. Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are understood to be among the players Amorim is chasing for that position.
Gyokeres worked alongside Amorim at Sporting CP and is expected to leave the Portuguese club this summer. He scored 66 goals in 68 appearances under the now-United boss, who left Sporting last November to replace Ten Hag.
