Man Utd star Amad explains showing middle finger to fan in emotional message

Manchester United winger Amad has revealed that he put his middle finger up to a fan in Malaysia because he doesn’t respect people who insult his mother. Amad jetted off with the United squad for their post-season tour of Asia following the conclusion of the Premier League campaign on Sunday. The Red Devils lost their opening game against an ASEAN All-Stars team in Kuala Lumpa on Wednesday.

Amad ended the Premier League season with eight goals to his name as he found the back of the net during his side’s final clash against Aston Villa at the weekend. The 22-year-old was named on the bench against the ASEAN All-Stars and was introduced as a second half substitute as United were defeated 1-0. Ruben Amorim’s side will travel to Hong Kong to take on the national team of the former British colony in their second game of the tour before players head off on their summer break.

Following the Red Devils’ defeat in Malaysia, an online photo appeared to show Amad putting his middle finger up to a supporter. And, according to the Daily Mail, the player had been the target of serious personal abuse from a United fan.

Giving his take on the incident in an emotional message to his followers on X (formerly Twitter), the player then explained: “I have respect for people but not for the one who insults my mom.

“I shouldn’t have reacted like that but I don’t regret what I did. We had a great time in Malaysia with good people.”

United were booed following their defeat against the ASEAN All-Stars team, with the Red Devils faltering in front of goal throughout the encounter.

And after the match, Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim issued his say on the booing as he explained: “I feel always guilty of the performance of the team since I am here in the first game.

“The boos from the fans, maybe it is something we need because every game that we lost in the Premier League they were always there. Let’s see for next season.”

Amad, meanwhile, will be hoping for a warm welcome in Hong Kong. The Ivorian was helped by fans in Malaysia earlier this week as he attempted to hire an electric scooter after touching down in the country.

Amad and Alejandro Garnacho asked a fan to rent out scooters for them and set it up for them ahead of the match.

And crowds of people surrounded the United stars, with the players then posing for pictures with locals.
