Manchester United‘s young goalscoring sensation Chido Obi-Martin has sparked speculation about a potential international switch of allegiances after being spotted wearing his old England under-16s kit during a Christmas training session.
The 17-year-old, who made two appearances for the Young Lions in a UEFA development tournament in Cyprus last March, has since switched allegiances to play for Denmark.
Born in Glostrup, a suburb of Copenhagen, to a Danish mother and a Nigerian father, Obi-Marin is also eligible to represent Nigeria at international level.
However, his decision to don the No.23 England shirt he wore at the UEFA tournament during a Christmas Eve training session has led to speculation that he may be considering a return to the English fold.
He posed for a photo after the session with coaches Garry Richards, Kudus Oyenuga, and West Ham United under-18s player Chukwumeka Obi – and the snap made its way to Instagram.
While he doesn’t have to make a decision until he plays competitive matches for a senior national team, in an interview with Danish newspaper Bold in March, he expressed his desire to represent his birth country.
