Chelsea and France icon Marcel Desailly has warned Arsenal that he envisages William Saliba playing for Real Madrid one day.
The Gunners are working to tie their defender down on a long-term contract to fend off interest from Madrid, but Desailly thinks that the centre-back will one day head to La Liga.
“One worry for Arsenal fans is that he has had three and will probably have four seasons in the first team,” Desailly told Oddspedia. “Will he want a change? We know that Arsenal are never number one.
“This season he will stay there. I don’t see him going anywhere. But in the future I could see him at Real Madrid with a new lifestyle, Arsenal fans should worry.
“I have to apologise to William Saliba. When he started, I said that I didn’t believe that he could be one of these top defenders that we have in the French system.
“And in fact, he has become a top defender that we can really rely on. In the national team he is number one, even though there are other top defenders. We have top defenders like Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano, but Saliba is top.”
