Manchester United held to 1-1 draw by Chelsea as Van Nistelrooy remains unbeaten as interim manager

Moises Caicedo’s equaliser after Bruno Fernandes’ goal from the spot saw Chelsea hold Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in their Premier League match, at the Old Trafford Stadium here on Sunday.

The result meant the Red Devils remained unbeaten under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, after a 5-2 win over Leicester in their League Cup clash. In the Premier League, the draw kept them 13th in the standings while Chelsea in fourth, with 18 points off 10 matches.

United started the match aggressively, with Marcus Rashford hitting the woodwork in the last kick of the first half. But it found the breakthrough in the 70th minute when Bruno found the net from the spot.

The lead did not stay for long as Caicedo scored from a set-piece four minutes later to salvage a point for the Blues in the away fixture.

Both teams move to Europe for their next matches, with United hosting PAOK Thessaloniki in the Europa League while Chelsea hosts FC Noah in the Europa Conference League, five days later.
