Matheus Cunha makes ‘complicated’ admission as Man Utd move addressed

Matheus Cunha has opened up about his move to Manchester United in his first interview since joining, revealing that Ruben Amorim played a key influence in his decision.

The Brazilian striker’s £62.5million switch from Wolves was sealed after United met his release clause, with the player signing a five-year deal, plus an option for a further year.

Cunha, who netted 17 times for a struggling Wolves team last season, is set to bolster Amorim’s squad as they look to bounce back from a disappointing campaign.

In his first interview with MUTV since the transfer, Cunha expressed his feelings: “I think my decision [to join United] maybe outside, they don’t understand, it was a little bit complicated.

“When you always dream to play [for United], it’s easier to make this decision. But, for me, no one is like United, you know? When you have the possibility to come here… I know it was a hard season for everyone, but I think my decision shows a lot what this club is for me and what I believe it can be.

“I will do everything I can to manage this inside of me to play for my dream team.”

New signing Cunha shared his passion for United and highlighted the influence Amorim played, adding: “Yeah, apart from everything I say about the club, you know, I follow, this is my dream club, everything like that, I think he was very important to bring me here.

“I really believe in him, everything he did in Portugal, like I say, I hope he can conquer the world like he did in Portugal, but of course, I think he needs players who can do everything like I am open to doing. And help the team and help him. All the conversations we had made my decision easier.”

On his ambitions with the Red Devils, Cunha remarked: “I don’t think we have one player who comes here and doesn’t think of the glory days of Manchester United, to remember all the times they win the Premier League.

“Of course, to qualify for the Champions League, and this is what I think about United, to put this club on top and I’ll do everything to help the team to conquer these kind of things.

“I think everything that happens in my life now is much better because I think I’m a little bit more mature. Of course, I am someone who tries to learn from the mistakes for the good things.

“I have maturity now and to go to national team was better. To come here, was the perfect moment.”
