Mikel Arteta ‘excited’ as Arsenal plot ‘big summer’ in transfer window

Mikel Arteta has confirmed Arsenal are planning a “big summer” in their quest to claim the most prestigious silverware next season. With the new sporting director Andrea Berta on board, the Gunners are poised for a lavish spending spree in the upcoming transfer window. Having fallen well behind Liverpool in this year’s Premier League title race, Arsenal are gearing up for substantial investments.

The north Londoners are eyeing a new centre forward, left winger, and a £51million deal for Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi. Arteta has indicated ambitious plans for the club’s future, saying: “It’s going to be a big one and we are very excited about it. But now when you are going to go again, we want to increase the depth of the squad but as well we want to increase the quality and the skills that we need to go to the next step.”

Arsenal‘s sights are set on a marquee centre forward, with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres among the touted candidates. Arsenal are also linked to Newcastle‘s Alexander Isak and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

Despite remaining a force in the Champions League, expectations were high for Arsenal to emerge as formidable challengers in the Premier League, and they must now strive to bridge the gap with frontrunners like Liverpool.

Arteta has emphasised the importance of contract renewals, with Bukayo Saka and William Saliba nearing the last two years of their agreements. He’s confident that new contracts are high on new sporting director Andrea Berta’s agenda.

The Arsenal boss praised the addition of Berta to the club: “I think Andrea is a big addition to the club, a big addition to the team, a team that is already formed with a lot of great people.

“Every summer is big because it is an opportunity and especially because of the number of players we have in the squad right now that is necessary.

“But it’s a big summer for many things because first of all we have to maintain the good foundations that we have and then obviously how can we improve and evolve the team.”

Regarding the future of Saliba and Saka, Arteta remarked: “It’s very important but we’re going to leave all those questions for Andrea and make sure that he has his place and his role and he can fulfil it. Hopefully my influence will be in other aspects.”
