Nottingham Forest are considering sacking manager Nuno Espirito Santo after just one match this season as tensions brew behind the scenes, according to reports. Forest started their campaign with a 3-1 win against Brentford on the Premier League’s opening weekend, but significant change could be on the horizon at the City Ground.
According to reporter Matteo Moretto, the Reds are already evaluating alternative manager candidates amid a spiky relationship between Espirito Santo and the ownership. It’s claimed that one source of the row are certain signings during the summer transfer window following a recent raft of recruits.
Nottingham Forest have been contacted for comment.
Ahead of the new season, Espirito Santo publicly expressed his concerns about Forest’s lack of business, regarding incomings and outgoings.
“We are very far – very, very far – from where we should be. We are very far in terms of preparation, in terms of planning, in terms of the squad,” Espirito Santo explained.
“So we are all very worried that in two or three days’ time we are playing for the Premier League, the most demanding competition in the world. And we are very far. Very, very far.
“The plans that we had didn’t come through. The preparation in terms of the squad was not ideal.

“We didn’t have a chance to create the bond – and this is what I think is more important.
“Because we don’t know which squad we have. We have players working here who know they’re going to leave on loan. We have a major problem.”
At that stage, Forest had only added Bologna winger Dan Ndoye, Botafogo duo Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha, and Norwich City goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
Evangelos Marinakis has emptied his pockets in recent days, though, sanctioning deals for Omari Hutchinson, Arnaud Kalimuendo, James McAtee and Douglas Luiz.
Whether Espirito Santo’s reported recruited lies with the previous lack of activity or the personnel that have arrived on the River Trent remains to be seen.
Forest are fifth in the Premier League after the opening weekend, with a trip to Crystal Palace and a home match against West Ham on the agenda before the September international break.
Chris Wood started the campaign where he left off against Brentford, scoring twice to add to Ndoye’s debut goal in the first half.
Forest are also preparing for their return to Europe after replacing Crystal Palace in the Europa League.
