Nottingham Forest star accuses Liverpool of being ‘lucky’ after silencing Salah

Nottingham Forest star Ola Aina suggested Liverpool may have been “lucky” after the sides played out a 1-1 draw in the Premier League on Tuesday night. The right-back played the full 90 minutes at the City Ground as the hosts missed out on the chance to reduce the visitors’ lead at the top of the table.

Forest have enjoyed an incredible season under Nuno Espirito Santo and climbed to second in the Premier League table earlier this month.

They took an early lead against Liverpool as Chris Wood fired the ball into the back of the net, with Diogo Jota heading in an equaliser from a corner with his first touch midway through the second half.

Liverpool were way off their best during the opening period but found their form after the interval as they aimed to take all three points back to the north west.

Forest faced a barrage of attacks from the Merseyside giants during the closing stages of the game as goalkeeper Matz Sels was forced to make a string of fine saves.

And Aina even cleared an effort from Mohamed Salah off the line in the dying moments as the Egyptian searched for a winner.

Aina took to Snapchat after the match to give his verdict on the evening’s events, with the 28-year-old posting a couple of pictures of himself deep in thought.

He captioned the first image by writing: “I don’t know. Did Liverpool catch life? Or did we?”

And he captioned the second image by penning: “Because they scored a lucky corner. But also they were letting off hella shots. But then again it was access denied for dem man there.”

Aina finished: “I’ll take the point tho f***. In one season we’ve stained four points from them lot, I don’t mind.”

The draw in the east Midlands meant Liverpool remained six points clear of the home side in the table at the end of the evening.

And after the showdown, Forest boss Espirito Santo told TNT Sports: “First half was very organised. We did not allow too many situations for Liverpool. They had possession but were not able to break us.

“We knew in the second half that they would react. The game went a bit up and down and we knew in that moment that they could be dangerous.

“They had control and with the speed and the talent they created so many chances. Overall, I’m proud of the way we worked. The running and desire of the players was incredible.

“We have to be fair with the game. Liverpool are very good, they had some good chances and are an amazing team. Being able to compete and challenge against them shows that we want to progress and continue.”
