The Philippines achieved two wins in the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, but fell short of a spot in the main tournament which will be held next year in Saudi Arabia.
After losing to Syria, 2-1, last September 3, the Philippines defeated Tajikistan, 1-0, last September 6, thanks to a Noah Leddel goal at the 71st minute.
The Philippines then dominated Nepal, 4-0, last September 9, with goals from Otu Banatao at the 33rd minute, followed by a goal off a penalty from Javier Mariona at the 39th minute. Dov Cariño had one at the 81st minute before Sandro Reyes capped the tournament with a goal at the 85th minute.
The Philippines finished with a 2-1 record, behind Syria who had a 3-0 sweep of Group K.
Only the top team of each of the 11 groups advanced to the final tournament, along with the four best-ranked second-placed teams. The Philippines, however, finished seventh among second-placed teams.
