The Philippines settled for a draw, 1-1, against Myanmar to open its campaign in the 2024 ASEAN Championship on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
The Philippine Men’s National Football Team (PMNFT) had several chances in the first half, but it was Maung Maung Lwin who converted early for Myanmar at the 25th minute.
Myanmar almost doubled their score at the 63rd minute but it was deemed otherwise after a VAR, which gave the Philippines a chance to equalize.
The nationals did as at the 72nd minute, Bjorn Kristensen scored a goal off a penalty kick to equalize.
The Philippines had other attempts afterwards, but the match ended with a goal each for both squads.
With the draw, the Philippines registered a point in Group B behind Vietnam and Indonesia who have one win each.
Myanmar, meanwhile, slipped to a 0-1-1 record.
PMNFT will next face Laos on Sunday at the New Laos National Stadium.
