A footballer at a Premier League club has reportedly been dumped by his wife after he was caught cheating on their Ring doorbell camera. The player is said to have been kicked out of the family home after bringing another woman into the house while his wife was on holiday.
According to the Daily Mail, the woman in question sent a photo of the footballer in the marital bed to his wife on Instagram alongside the caption: “I slept with your husband.” The player was quick to assure her that the photo she received was a fake and had been doctored.
It showed two people, whose faces were not visible, in the bed with a framed image of the footballer hugging his wife and their children on the wall in the background.
The wife did not completely believe her husband when he said the photo was fake and checked the Ring doorbell app for any evidence of foul play. She reportedly discovered footage of the player and a female companion making their way through the front door.
She also saw that the woman accompanying her husband was the same as the one who had sent her the photograph on Instagram. In response, she was said to have informed the footballer that she was ending their marriage and booted him out of the family home.
The player, who Express Sport is not naming, was reportedly mocked by team-mates about how the end of his marriage came about. Some of his fellow players were said to have nicknamed him ‘Ringo’ and were calling him that behind his back.
The wife’s detective work is akin to the ‘Wagatha Christie’ scandal involving Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy, which dominated headlines a few years ago. Coleen, wife of former England captain Wayne Rooney, publicly accused Vardy of leaking stories to the tabloid press.
In order to discover who was leaking information to the media, she posted a series of false stories on Instagram and tweaked the privacy settings so that only Vardy could see them. When those stories later appeared in the news, Rooney claimed she knew Vardy was the culprit.
Vardy, who is married to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, denied the accusation and sued Rooney for libel in a high-profile court case. She ended up losing and was ordered to pay a substantial proportion of Rooney’s legal expenses, totalling millions of pounds.
