Real Madrid will be allowed to spend 1,103 times more on wages and squad amortisation than Sevilla after La Liga announced their salary limits this week.
Los Blancos are currently second in the table but are level on points with table-toppers Barcelona ahead of the final 14 matches of the campaign.
Real have been known to bring in some of the world’s best players and hand them eye-watering wages.
The Spanish team have a host of elite players on their books, including the likes of Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.
On Tuesday night, La Liga released details of the salary limits for each club in the Spanish top-flight following the winter transfer window.
Real Madrid are allowed to spend £625.5m on salaries, while Barcelona have been handed a limit of £384m. But at the other end of the scale, Sevilla will only be able to spend £567,000 for the same purposes.
Meanwhile, Leganes will have just shy of £29m to play with, while Espanyol’s limit has been set at just under £6.5m.
Clubs in Spain are handed vastly different spending limits depending on their income and overall financial health.
And the disparity has sparked fury in some quarters, with many people questioning whether it is fair for some teams to be allowed to offer much higher salaries than their rivals. Former Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido Benavente even hissed: “The ruin that I warned.”
At the end of June 2023, Sevilla vice-president Pepe Castro revealed the club were sitting on a debt pile of £74.5m.
They have since raised around £49m through player sales, while spending £40m to bring in new faces, according to Transfermarkt.
Last March, Sevilla announced that they had obtained financial backing from international investors to the tune of £89.5m.
And in a statement, the club explained at the time: “On Tuesday, we signed an agreement that will guarantee financial stability in the short and long term. This will be a crucial part of ensuring the success of our strategic plan.
“Following the financial roadmap signed off this week, the club is now aiming to generate profit in the coming seasons, prioritising an environment of financial stability that will, in turn, strengthen our economic power.
“The club is already working with a clear and reliable plan that will promote the creation of a competitive and balanced squad with great potential for growth and financial return, thus returning to a model that has already served us so well.”
