With Monday marking the official closure of the summer transfer window, Arsenal target Rodrygo appears to have dropped a major clue regarding his future at Real Madrid.
The Brazilian international has been linked with a switch to Arsenal this summer, as his standing under new boss Xabi Alonso remains uncertain.
The former Liverpool legend afforded him merely 92 minutes across six fixtures during their Club World Cup run.
This week, The Athletic revealed Rodrygo instructed representatives Pini Zahavi and Kia Joorabchian to investigate a summer departure from the Santiago Bernabeu, contradicting recent assertions from his representatives that he plans to remain in the Spanish capital.
His transfer circumstances have been characterised by mixed messages. Subsequently, Real have learned their opponents for the forthcoming Champions League campaign and Rodrygo responded to Thursday’s draw.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), the Brazilian shared Real’s league phase fixtures in the Champions League, accompanied by the message: “In search of the 16th,” with a trophy emoji.
The La Liga powerhouses will encounter Manchester City at home and Liverpool at Anfield. Both sides have been connected with the 24-year-old.
Speaking about the limited regular playing time given to Rodrygo, Alonso previously commented: “Every decision about who plays, who makes the eleven, are mine, and I make my assessments with help from the coaching staff.
“We consider what we think is best for each game. Of course, I speak to a lot of players, and I’ve spoken to Rodrygo as well.
“The Club World Cup was something different. The squad we had, I knew it would be different to what we are building, so we’ve only played one game. From my perspective, the season and my time at the club starts now.”
Despite ongoing rumours linking him with a move to the Emirates, the recent £67.5 million acquisition of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace seems to make such a transfer unlikely.
