Ruben Amorim names ‘dream’ Man Utd transfer target but Ratcliffe could say no

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has pinpointed Southampton winger Tyler Dibling as a dream summer transfer target, according to reports. However, the Portuguese tactician could face disappointment at the hands of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the club’s new-look football leadership team.

Dibling looks sure to leave Southampton this summer when he will enter the final year of his contract with little sign of renewal. A host of European heavyweights, including Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, are being strongly linked as the 19-year-old’s suitors. United are among the clubs credited with an interest as Amorim prepares to bolster his attacking ranks in his first summer transfer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the prospect of luring Dibling to Old Trafford at the end of the season is a dream for the club.

However, Southampton are said to value the teenage winger at over £100million, which would prove problematic for almost all of his admirers.

It’s claimed that the Saints consider Dibling one of the best talents in world football in his position and won’t let him leave without a fight despite their inevitable relegation.

Amorim could view Dibling as a right-wing-back option just as much as one of the No. 10s in his 3-4-3 system after missing out on a reunion with Geovany Quenda due to Chelsea‘s quick dealings.

The 40-year-old will want to address the position this summer after recruiting Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for the left in January.

Amad can operate as a right-wing-back, while United have a couple of exciting suitable prospects emerging from the academy, including Bendito Mantato.

But Amorim has reportedly locked onto Dibling as a priority target even though he has made just 25 Premier League appearances for one of the English top-flight’s worst-ever sides.

It goes without saying that a price tag north of £100m would be outside of United’s budget. Sir Jim isn’t expected to sanction many, if any, marquee moves amid his battle to improve finances.

Amorim is set to revamp his squad with a series of signings in the price range of the £25m paid for Dorgu in the winter.

Even if Southampton are negotiating down from their eye-watering price tag, Dibling won’t come cheap.

In December, former manager Russell Martin laughed off reports that the England youth international was available for £21m.

He joked: “I was told some rumours about Man Utd. One was a bid of £21m. I’m not sure you’ll get his left foot for that.”
