Ruben Amorim puts huge pressure on Man Utd stars with staff risking losing jobs

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim admits responsibility falls on him and his players to boost morale among the club’s staff. Many employees are facing redundancy due to severe cost-cutting measures.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a minority owner of the club, is orchestrating up to 200 further redundancies after the 250 job cuts carried out last autumn, actions which have plummeted staff morale to an all-time low amid efforts to recover from £300million losses over three years.

Amorim reflected on the impact of the redundancy news on him and the squad, asserting that they must step up their game in solidarity with those whose jobs are at risk. “I think it’s really important for us in the first-team, coaches and players, to not ignore that,” Amorim stated.

“People are losing their jobs, so we have to acknowledge that and the biggest problem is the football, because we spent the money and we’re not winning. We’re not in the Champions League, so the revenues are not the same.

“We spent a lot of money in the past and now we have to be careful with the finances. We can’t rebuild the team the way we would like.

“When people are losing their jobs, of course it’s hard to have that feeling of people feeling safe in their jobs and it affects the environment.

“We cannot ignore that, we acknowledge that problem and I want to say that the responsibility is on the first-team and we have to change that.”

Manchester United supporters are reeling from a significant surge in ticket prices, with the most affordable tickets now hitting £66 after Ratcliffe eliminated discounts for pensioners and children. Today, United, who find themselves in a disappointing 13th position in the Premier League, meet Tottenham – just one spot below them – in a crucial match that manager Amorim has acknowledged is vital for lifting team spirits.

“The first part, what we should do, is to win at Tottenham,” Amorim declared. “That is a small step to try to help these people, to try not to push the prices of the tickets higher. We are responsible for that.”
