Jadon Sancho is holding regular talks with Borussia Dortmund after instructing his representatives to seal a third stint at the Bundesliga club this summer, according to reports. Chelsea agreed an obligation to buy Sancho for £25million at the end of the season when they signed him on loan from Manchester United in September.
However, the 24-year-old winger has struggled to make a positive impression, recording just three goal involvements in his last 20 Premier League appearances. And emerging reports state Chelsea do, in fact, have an option to pay United a £5m fee to breach the agreement and send him back to Old Trafford. Fresh claims in Germany suggest Sancho is already preparing his next move, which could involve yet another return to the Westfalenstadion.
According to BILD, the prospect of Chelsea triggering their obligation to buy Sancho is almost impossible while his stock plummets further at Stamford Bridge.
Thus, his struggles have sparked another potential return to Dortmund, who are enduring an equally miserable season and slumped 11th in the Bundesliga, 27 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
It’s claimed that Sancho has never fallen out of contact with “his old love” after spending two stints at the club.
He is said to be in touch with the Black and Yellows and the club’s winger Jamie Gittens, a close friend.
The report adds that Sancho’s desire to return to the Ruhr outfit is growing daily, and it is considered his dream destination in the summer transfer window.
The England international, who hasn’t earned a cap since 2021, is thought to have instructed his representatives to orchestrate a transfer.
Bayer Leverkusen have also been credited with an interest in Sancho, who looks increasingly likely to be playing his football away from the Premier League next season.
Ruben Amorim will want to cash in on Sancho to help fund his mammoth revamp of the United squad this summer, with Marcus Rashford and Antony also on the chopping block.
The Red Devils could generate at least £80m by selling the trio, which would go a long way in upgrading Amorim’s toothless attack.
While Old Trafford chiefs would likely prefer Chelsea to keep their word and sign Sancho permanently at the end of the campaign, pocketing a £5m fee for a loan wouldn’t be disastrous.
It could prove easier said than done to offload Sancho for good, though, considering Dortmund didn’t want to sign him permanently after he spent the second half of last season on loan in Germany.
