Sandro Reyes goal salvages draw for Philippines vs Laos in ASEAN Championship

A late goal from Sandro Reyes rescued the Philippines against Laos, 1-1, on Sunday in the 2024 ASEAN Championship Mitsubishi Electric Cup in Vientiane, Laos.

After an own goal at the 34th minute from Michael Baldisimo, Reyes made a goal at the 77th minute to equalize.

Alex Monis’ goal after that was deemed offside, handing the Philippines its second draw in the tournament.

“We didn’t attack well. We were very predictable with so many players behind the ball,” head coach Albert Capellas said. “We weren’t brave enough to move the ball quicker and to play in between the lines, and for that I’m disappointed because I know my team can play better.”

Last Thursday, the Philippines’ match against Myanmar also resulted in a draw.

The Philippines is currently placed third in Group B behind Vietnam and Indonesia, while Laos and Myanmar are at the fourth and fifth spot.

The team will come home on Wednesday as it goes against Vietnam at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
