Sudan will look to cement its lead at the top of its qualifying group when it faces African heavyweight Senegal in the qualifiers for FIFA World Cup 2026, in Libya on Saturday.
Sudan which has won thrice in four games in the first round so far, sits atop Group B, with 10 points while Senegal is third, with eight points after four matches.
Senegal, the 2021 African Cup of Nations winner, has won twice and drawn as many games so far. Under the leadership of Coach Pape Thiaw, the Lions of Teranga are determined to secure a victory that would help them climb to the top of Group B.
With morale high and the team well-prepared, Thiaw emphasized their focus on this match, describing it as a “final” in a series of must-win games.
“We have made a very good journey thanks to the State of Senegal, which has understood for years now the importance of chartering special flights for the national team to ensure they can perform excellently. Understand that morale is good. We are ready to play this ‘final’ as we do with all other ‘finals’ in Group B,” Thiaw said.
