Thomas Tuchel is in negotiations to become England’s next permanent manager, according to reports. Manchester United are also said to be interested in the German, though they will miss out if he is appointed by the FA to replace interim boss Lee Carsley.
England Under-21s manager Carsley took interim charge in the wake of Gareth Southgate’s departure following England’s defeat in the Euro 2024 final. He was widely expected to get the job on a permanent basis after kicking off his reign with wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland.
But things took a turn on Thursday night, when Carsley’s experimental side suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Greece, who beat the Three Lions for the first time in their history and inflicted their first loss at Wembley in four years.
