Dion Dublin jokingly offered to take an angry Tottenham fan outside Villa Park during the BBC’s coverage of the FA Cup. The broadcaster’s half-time analysis was disrupted by an away supporter banging on the studio.
Spurs trailed 1-0 against Aston Villa in their FA Cup fourth-round tie. Jacob Ramsey squeezed a shot under Antonin Kinsky inside the opening minute.
It was the latest setback suffered by Ange Postecoglou‘s side. Some fans are growing frustrated with the performances of the team, and seemingly took out their anger on the BBC‘s studio inside Villa Park.
Pundits Dublin, Jermain Defoe and Joe Hart were analysing the game alongside presenter Mark Chapman when loud banging could be heard outside the studio. Dublin and Defoe looked stunned while Hart smiled.
The fan is reported to have shouted that Dublin was a ‘W*****’. The banging continued for several moments before Chapman finally acknowledged what was happening.
Interrupting Hart, the soon-to-be Match of the Day co-host said: “They’re angry they’re behind. Take us through, Dion, take us through the goal…”
A clearly irritated Dublin then jokingly threatened to take the individual outside the stadium, saying: “I’ll take him outside in a minute.”
Chapman quipped: “If you do that, I’ll be just behind you, alright?”
Dublin, a former Premier League forward who also presents Homes Under The Hammer on the BBC, remained professional and tried to analyse Villa’s goal.
Former Spurs striker Defoe attempted to get the person’s attention but the banging continued intermittently. It then stopped but it is unclear what happened to the person in question.
The north Londoners had been poor in the first half and seemed bereft of confidence. And things got even worse in the second hald for Spurs as they went 2-0 behind after Morgan Rogers poked home from close range.
They are 14th in the Premier League and have endured a disappointing campaign under Postecoglou, who has frequently pointed to injuries as a reason for their bad results.
And sack fears will grow over Postecoglou if they don’t turn the result around at Villa Park, with Europa League the only chance of glory for Tottenham, with the side languishing down in the bottom half of the Premier League.
After Villa, they take on fellow strugglers Man Utd in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
