Vardy posts brutally honest Leicester ‘s*** show’ message as Mahrez wades in

Jamie Vardy has unleashed a scathing attack on his fellow Leicester players in a candid social media post, apologising to fans following the Foxes’ demotion from the Premier League.

The team’s relegation was sealed on Sunday, marking a swift return to the Championship despite their triumph in the division last season.

The Foxes have endured a torrid time since their promotion, managing a mere four victories throughout the campaign. The departure of Enzo Maresca to Chelsea left a void that Steve Cooper briefly filled before his dismissal after 12 games.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took over in late November, has fared little better, securing just eight points.

Vardy has been unsparing in his critique of Leicester’s disastrous season, branding it a “s*** show” and holding his teammates accountable for the abysmal performance.

Vardy, 38, expressed his dismay: “At this point, I don’t even know what to say. No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses.”

He continued, “Collectively, as players and as a club, we failed. There is simply no hiding, and I refuse to entertain any suggestion of doing so.”

Leicester’s tearful star didn’t pull any punches with his emotional apology, openly lamenting the team’s disastrous season: “Having been at this club for so long, we’ve experienced so many highs and successes – and this season has been nothing but miserable and for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you’re feeling it too.”

He then directed his contrition towards the devoted supporters, stating despondently: “To the fans: I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed, and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a s*** show.”

Vardy’s former team-mates Shinji Okazaki and Riyad Mahrez, with whom he shared the iconic 2016 season when Leicester shocked the world and won the Premier League, each also commented on the post.

Mahrez left a comment simply remarking “chin up”, encouraging his close friend to keep on going. Rumours now persist that Vardy may depart the Foxes and announce his retirement from professional football.

After Leicester’s humiliating home defeat – their 16th in 18 games with Van Nistelrooy at the helm – they finished another dismal performance without a goal, marking an unwanted ninth consecutive home game failure.

Meanwhile, under-fire boss Van Nistelrooy grapples with uncertainty about his own position at the club. Hinting at his precarious status, he revealed: “I know what I want my future to look like. I’m very clear. I have learnt a lot in the past four months, in terms of every aspect of the club and team.

“I know what’s necessary. Then, of course, it’s a matter of being aligned with the club. I’m waiting for that conversation to take place.”
