Viktor Gyokeres ‘considering Man Utd U-turn’ after Arsenal transfer stalls

Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly having second thoughts about a move to Manchester United following Arsenal‘s stalled negotiations with Sporting Lisbon. The striker had expressed his desire to join the Gunners, but Sporting’s financial demands have created complications.

The Portuguese club are seeking around £68million for the forward, who has netted 97 goals in 102 appearances across all competitions since his 2023 switch from Coventry. Yet, Arsenal have failed to match their valuation, which could re-open the door for United.

A fresh report from Portuguese publication Correio da Manha suggests that Gyokeres is reconsidering his options and is now taking another look at an Old Trafford switch.

The 27-year-old shares a close bond with United manager Ruben Amorim, who was at the helm when he arrived at Sporting.

Gyokeres previously praised Amorim’s influence on his development, stating: “I came here, it’s been great since day one, I’ve developed a lot here with the team.

“We have a lot of amazing memories together as a team, winning two championships in a row, for the first time in 71 years, I think it is, it’s an amazing achievement.

“Of course, Amorim played a big part in this because he was the one who really wanted me here, and his style of football that we played under him suited me very well, I think.

“I can’t thank him enough. The style of play we had under him suited me perfectly.”

“It was a shock [when Amorim joined United last year], I’d never seen a coach leave in the middle of the season when everything was going so well.

“No hard feelings. Yes, it was surprising, but I totally understand his decision.”

United will not be able to fund a striker swoop until Amorim offloads some players, having not overseen a single high-profile sale yet this summer.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia are all in the shop window. None are currently training with Amorim’s squad at Carrington.

United’s immediate priority is to seal a deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo as negotiations continue over his transfer fee.

The Red Devils have already added Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha and Cerro Porteno left-back Diego Leon to their squad for the upcoming season.
