Alcaraz downs Fritz to roar into third Wimbledon final

Carlos Alcaraz has moved to the verge of a third consecutive Wimbledon championship triumph at the age of just 22 after subduing the tough challenge of American Taylor Fritz.

Spain’s double champion had to be sharp again to get past doughty fifth seed Fritz 6-4 5-7 6-3 7-6 (8-6) on another baking hot day on Centre Court on Friday.

It also took his amazing career record on grass courts to 35 wins from 38 matches.

The No.2 seed has now earned his 24th straight match victory in his best ever win streak, and will face either world No.1 Jannik Sinner or 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic in the final on Sunday.

Fritz had levelled the match at one set all and had the chance to take the match into a fifth set decider when he led 6-4 in the penultimate set tiebreak, only for Alcaraz to raise his game once again and reel off the next four points to seal victory in two hours 49 minutes.
