Jack Draper won’t want this season to end with the form he’s in at the minute – but it’s for the best it does.
Injuries have plagued British tennis for years and arguably stole Grand Slam titles from Andy Murray‘s career.
Emma Raducanu‘s own issues have been well publicised since she won the US Open. Our nation’s best two players of recent times cruelly struck down.
That’s why a break will do Draper no harm at all.
He’s played eight matches in the last ten days after winning the Vienna Open title and going deep at the Paris Masters. This comes weeks after reaching the US Open semi-finals.
Draper will feel invincible and be devastated that Great Britain didn’t qualify for the Davis Cup finale later this month.
But taking a two-month break before the Aussie swing could be just the medicine needed to avoid the same fate as Murray and Raducanu.
FIA stand by Herbert
GOOD on the FIA for standing by Johnny Herbert after Max Verstappen‘s dad claimed he was biased against his son last weekend.
Herbert will again sit on Sunday’s four-man panel that officiates the Brazilian Grand Prix.
If anybody should be banned, it should be Jos Verstappen for throwing such wild accusations around.
Amorim should cheer on Chelsea
RUUD van Nistelrooy will make Ruben Amorim‘s life very uncomfortable if he wins every match as interim manager.
As soon as results start to slip under the new Portuguese boss, questions will be raised over whether Van Nistelrooy should have got the gig full-time.
It would suit Amorim for Chelsea to get a result on Sunday.
