Andy Murray set to hand Wimbledon baton over to new British superstar

Jack Draper is exactly what British tennis needs right now and his arrival has come at the perfect time.

The 23-year-old is primed for a deep run at Wimbledon and he proved his worth by beating Carlos Alcaraz at Queen’s Club last week.

Older players usually try and keep their younger compatriot’s feet firmly on the ground.

But Andy Murray, 37, is so impressed by Draper he did the complete opposite.

“Jack, I think, has bigger goals to aspire to than being British number one. In my opinion he can get right up to the top of the game, right to the top of the world rankings,” Murray said.

He has every right to be excited.

Draper won the Stuttgart Open title beating 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini and Frances Tiafoe on his remarkable run.

He then dismissed Alcaraz in straight sets in west London – a statement win if there ever was one.

Murray will get a perfect farewell at Wimbledon over the next fortnight.

And he could not be passing the baton over to a more worthy contender.

Anthony Joshua

ANTHONY Joshua will fight Daniel Dubois at Wembley – as a bout between two British boxers should be.

It is set to be a tune-up fight for a blockbuster clash with Tyson Fury in 2025.

But British fans will be let down if Joshua vs Fury takes place in Saudi Arabia instead of the UK.

Darts own goal

YOU think that darts chiefs would do anything to have Luke Littler representing England at the World Cup this week.

Tournament sponsors must be disappointed that the sport’s biggest star is ineligible because of his world ranking.

It’s an own goal not finding an exception to call up such an in-form player.
