Securing the US Open for a second time was a “dream come true” for Carlos Alcaraz, though the World No. 1 confessed that tennis stars don’t possess the privilege of savouring their triumphs for extended periods. In the most recent instalment of their breathtaking rivalry, Alcaraz claimed his sixth Grand Slam on Sunday following his four-set victory over Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz pocketed a record-breaking £3.69million in prize money and relegated Sinner to No. 2 in the ATP Rankings. Following his US Open triumph, Alcaraz withdrew from the Spanish squad for their forthcoming Davis Cup qualifier against Denmark. Alcaraz revealed after his success that he desires to savour his remarkable accomplishments more thoroughly and allocate time for contemplation.
“Yeah, bad thing about tennis,” Alcaraz said. “I mean, it’s not too many bad things in tennis, but one of those is you win a tournament, and right after that, you have to be focused on the next one.
“So sometimes you just have one day just to enjoy, or not even that, and going after that to another tournament, another place. So sometimes it’s really difficult to realize that I won the tournament to enjoy.
“So what I learned mostly this year is about to take moments of every tournament, of every experience that you living and enjoy, and enjoy with my team, with my family, with the people you have around. I think it’s great to take a moment, see the trophy or see what you have done in the tournament, and appreciate that, keep it going, and enjoy.

“I think that’s really, really important. That’s something that I’m trying to do after every tournament, every match, or every trophy.”
Alcaraz was able to soak in the moment in New York, however, on Sunday night as he partied with models at an exclusive supper club.
Alcaraz has been replaced by Jaume Munar for the Davis Cup qualifier, allowing him to prolong his US Open celebrations. Alcaraz is still likely to play in the upcoming Laver Cup, representing Team Europe.
Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Jakub Mensik, Alexander Zverev, and Flavio Cobolli are also expected to represent Team Europe. Alcaraz will focus on the Laver Cup before beginning preparations for next season.
Alcaraz could complete the career Grand Slam in Melbourne at the start of next year, after winning the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. However, Alcaraz is soaking up his second success in New York.
“Well, it’s a great feeling,” he said. “I mean, it’s great. I’m working really hard just to lift this trophy. It’s my second one, but it’s still a dream, a dream come true. The second one here is super special.”
