Czech sixth seed Linda Noskova has claimed her first WTA Tour title, winning the Monterrey Open final in straight sets over New Zealander Lulu Sun.
Noskova avenged a straight-sets loss to Sun last week in the first round of the Cincinnati Open, this time beating the Kiwi 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 at Sonoma Club on Saturday night (local time).
The 19-year-old Czech, an Australian Open quarter-finalist in January, starts her US Open campaign on Tuesday (local time) against 30th-seeded Kazakhstani Yulia Putintseva.
The 23-year-old Sun, now representing her native New Zealand after playing for Switzerland, missed a chance to claim her first tour title.
The Wimbledon quarter-finalist kicks off her US Open quest on Monday against Italian Lucia Bronzetti.
Earlier, Hanyu Guo of China and Monica Niculescu of Romania won the doubles title, beating top-seeded Giuliana Olmos of Mexico and Alexandra Panova of Russia 3-6 6-3 10-4.
