Jack Draper gave an emotional post-match press conference as he explained what it meant to have his 80-year-old grandad in the stands to witness the biggest win of his young career.
The new British No. 1 ended Carlos Alcaraz‘s grass-court reign, handing the Spaniard his first loss on the surface since 2022 as he halted the top seed’s Queen’s title defence with a 7-6(3) 6-3 victory in the second round.
And Draper had plenty of support in the crowd, getting extra tickets for his extended family and friends.
Draper leapt into the air in celebration as he sealed victory on his fourth match point before giving a shoutout to his grandad, who was watching the whole thing from his box. It was a significant victory for the 22-year-old Brit, who had been forced to miss the entire grass-court season due to injury last year.
Fresh off the back of lifting his first title in Stuttgart on Sunday and becoming the new British No. 1, he followed it up by beating reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion Alcaraz. And he later detailed just how special the win was after inviting his loved ones to watch him play.
