Sachin Baisoya wins Indorama Open golf championship

Sachin Baisoya overcame a seven-shot deficit to clinch the title in the play-off against overnight leader Udayan Mane after a four-under 68 in the final round of the Rs.2 crore Indorama Open golf championship at the Kalhaan Blues and Greens Golf Club on Saturday.

The 29-year-old Sachin had missed the cut in the last four tournaments and was quite reluctant to play this week, but was persuaded to compete by his father.

In the play-off, after the two had tied on 11-under 277, Sachin negotiated the tricky pin on 18th with a par, while Udayan conceded a bogey.

The champion received Rs.30 lakh, which catapulted him to the second spot in the PGTI’s Order of Merit.

Udayan, a winner of 12 titles, was on course till he made two double-bogeys and a bogey in the last six holes, in slipping to a three-over 75 for the day. He pocketed Rs.20 lakh as the runner-up.

“I was playing well from the start today. I was quite confident going into the play-off,” said Sachin.

Diksha Dagar registers another Top-10 finish in South Africa

India’s Diksha Dagar shot her best round of the week with a 4-under 68 and grabbed a Top-10 finish in windy conditions at the Investec SA Women’s Open here on Sunday.

Diksha finished with rounds of 72-71-69-68 for a total of 8-under 280 for the week. This was Diksha’s second straight Top-10 in South Africa after ending tied 9th in Johannesbur, and the third of the season, as she was runners-up in Morocco.

She was tied 11th in New South Wales and the season promises to be a good one.

Another fine performer was Pranavi Urs, who shot 69 in the final round to be tied 11th and her rounds were 72-67-73-69 and a total of 7-under for four rounds.

Rookie Avani Prashanth (68-73-73-73) was tied for 50th with an even-par total while Tvesa Malik (70-71-76-73) totalled 2-over 290 and was tied 58th.

India’s Dagar and Wales’ Chloe Williams rounded out the top 10, with eight-under par on their scorecards.

This tournament marks the last Sunshine Ladies Tour event of the season and so Alexander claimed the Investec Order of Merit, finishing on 3,149 points.

India loses to Indonesia in WJT, to play Iran for 11th place

India lost to Indonesia 1-2 in the play-off match for the 9th to 12th place in the Asia-Oceania WJT under-14 boys tennis championship in Kuching, Malaysia, on Sunday.

In the match for the 11th place, India will play Iran.

Japan beat Korea and, Kazakhstan beat Hong Kong to set up a title clash.

Play-off (9th to 12 places): Indonesia bt India 2-1 (Rafael Pribadi lost to Kaustubh Singh 0-6, 1-6; Ethan Frans bt Viraj Choudhary 6-1, 6-1; Ethan & Komang Purustama bt Viraj & Paranjay Siwach 6-4, 6-1).

Sriram Balaji loses in semifinal of $200,000 Challenger tennis tournament

Sriram Balaji in partnership with Miguel Reyes-Varela was beaten 6-4, 7-5 by Santiago Gonzalez and Austin Krajicek in the doubles semifinals of the $200,000 Challenger tennis tournament in Mexico.

The semifinalists won 45 ATP points and $3,470.
