Manu Gandas cards five-under 31 on day one at Gujarat Open Golf Championship

Manu Gandas of Gurugram set the bar with an error-free five-under 31 to take the lead on day one of the Gujarat Open in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.

Yuvraj Sandhu of Chandigarh, the winner of the PGTI season-opener in Kolkata last week, as well as Om Prakash Chouhan of Mhow were tied for second place with scores of four-under 32.

Karnal’s Rohit Narwal and Hyderabad-based Mohd Azhar were tied for fourth with scores of three under 33. Defending champion Abhinav Lohan returned a two-under 34 to be placed tied sixth.

The first two rounds of the event comprise nine holes each. After 18 holes, the cut will be applied. The third and fourth rounds will then comprise 18 holes each.

The tournament will be played over a total of 54 holes. The par for the course in the first two rounds is 36.

Hitaashee, Vani and Amandeep for Leg 3 of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour

Hitaashee Bakshi, winner of the Order of Merit on the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour last year, will make her first appearance in the new season on the home circuit as she tees up in the third leg of the Tour at the Poona Club Golf Course here on Wednesday.

The winners of the first two events of the Tour in 2025, Rhea Purvi Sarvanan and Sneha Singh, are also in the field, which has 38 players including India’s star amateur, Mannat Brar.

As the season gets into flow, some of the established players like Hitaashee, Vani Kapoor and Amandeep Drall among others are teeing up to test their form and get ready for international events in the season.

In the past few years, the schedule of the HPWGT has been drawn in a manner that allows Indian players to play a few homes events and then get to internationals.

Vidhatri Urs, multiple winner on the HPWGT last year and Ananya Garg, who plan to play some events on the Sunshine Ladies Tour in South Africa, are also in the field. The trio plans to play at the Jabra Ladies Classic and SuperSport Ladies Challenge, which was won by India’s Tvesa Malik last year.

In addition, Rhea Purvi and Karishma Govind will also play a few events like the Platinum Ladies and ABSA Ladies invitational in South Africa.

Past winners like Jasmine Shekar, Seher Atwal and Neha Tripathi add to the strength of the field.

Apart from Mannat, the other amateurs are Saanvi Somu, who was the runner-up in the opening leg last month, Keerthana Rajiv, Ketaki Sood, and Mayara Sharma.

The current Hero Order of Merit leaders are Sneha Singh and Rhea Purvi Saravanan.
